Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System

The Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System is one of the largest veterans' hospitals in the country with 1,034 licensed beds. The patient population of LBVAHS reflects the kinds of disease typical of U.S. veterans who are primarily males with cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, urologic and neoplastic disorders. Residents assist in adult reconstructive surgery.

 

Children's Hospital of Orange County

Children's Hospital of Orange County is a nonprofit facility situated adjacent to St. Joseph Hospital. It has 192 beds: 35 intensive care, 124 medical/surgical and 32 neonatal intensive care. CHOC's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Pediatrics are closely affiliated with the UCI College of Medicine. Two orthopaedic resident rotation positions are located here.

 

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente Medical Center/Anaheim has a licensed bed capacity of 200, with over 100 physicians and 1000 employees on site. Two orthopaedic resident rotation positions are located here.

 

Orthopaedic Specialty Institute (OSI)

Orthopaedic Specialty Institute is an orthopaedic center that provides optimal care for each bone and joint problem in one convenient location. This institute includes all of the specialties of orthopaedics i.e. total joint , sports medicine & general orthopaedics. OSI also offers physical, aquatic and occupational therapy as well as an MRI facility. The practice, which opened in July 2002, has grown to 17 physicians whose combined time in practice totals more than 300 years. OSI features the largest subspecialty orthopaedic physician group in Orange County. One orthopaedic resident rotation position is located here.

Dr. Nitin Bhatia and Dr. Thay Lee were presented with the prestigious "Harold and Nancy Willingham Award for Outstanding Research Paper" at the meeting of the Western Orthopaedic Association this year. Drs. Bhatia and Lee presented their paper, entitled "Biomechanical Evaluation of Short-Segment Posterior Instrumentation with Crosslinks In An Unstable Human Burst Fracture Model".

The WOA, with more than 1,700 members, held it's 73rd annual meeting in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. Bhatia, an orthopaedic surgeon and Dr. Lee, a Ph.D Research Career Scientist/Biomedical Engineer, are on staff at University of California at Irvine.
